Siem Reap (FN), Oct. 16 – Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers Vongsey Vissoth said that Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport is a major attraction for tourists and investors as it can accommodate direct flights from distant places and large aircraft; therefore, it can maximize time and cost efficiency.
Minister Vongsey Vissoth spoke on Mondau (Oct. 16) during the official launching ceremony, held in the airport.
"The new airport has a larger port that can accommodate direct flights from distant places, which is a major attraction for tourists [...] Investors who want to invest in Cambodia can directly fly to the kingdom," the minister underscored.
Minister Vongsey Vissoth added that Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport will also become a major economic force. It will not only promote tourism but also benefit agriculture, technology, and other sectors. Apparently, it will act as an air transportation hub.
Minister in charge of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation Mao Havannall said the new infrastructure of Siem Reap Angkor-International Airport has enough capacity to attract domestic and foreign airlines, especially resume flights from China.
This airport will also contribute to the promotion of Cambodia's long-term sustainable economic growth, especially to increase Cambodia's competitiveness in the context of the kingdom's economic integration into ASEAN and the international.
Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport has 38 berths and is able to handle 7 million passengers a year, and the figure will rise to 12 million passengers annually from 2040. The airport can handle 10,000 tonnes of air cargo per year from 2023 and 26,000 tonnes a year from 2040, as well as 65,800 flights per year from 2023 and up to 112,700 flights annually from 2040.
