Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 11 – Brazilian foreign minister Mauro Vieira confirmed that Brazil plans to open an embassy in Phnom Penh in 2024 coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Cambodia-Brazil diplomatic relations.
The confirmation was made during the Brazilian foreign minister's courtesy call on Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet on Wednesday (Oct. 11) at the Peace Palace.
During the meeting, Samdech Thipadei welcomed the current visit of the Brazilian foreign minister and praised the results of past cooperation, with the hope that both countries' relations will be further strengthened and expanded.
For his part, Mauro Vieira conveyed a congratulatory letter from the Brazilian president to premier Hun Manet on his recent appointment and also expressed his intention to boost cooperation with the kingdom in various sectors such as trade, education, health, and cultural exchanges.
Taking this occasion, Mauro also welcomed the decision of the Royal Government to open the Cambodian Embassy in Brazil. The Brazilian foreign minister also thanked Cambodia for supporting Brazil to become an ASEAN dialogue partner in Phnom Penh during the Cambodia ASEAN Chairmanship in 2022.
In addition, both sides agreed to expand cooperation in tourism, agriculture, and people-to-people ties and discussed various issues that bring common interest.
Lastly, the Brazilian foreign minister invited Samdech Thipadei to pay a visit to Brazil at any appropriate time. In response, premier Hun Manet gladly accepted the invitation and expressed his intention to invite the Brazilian president to visit Cambodia, especially in 2024, and welcomed the opening of the Brazilian Embassy in Cambodia.
