Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 11 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet said that the Royal Government of the 7th mandate pledged to further strengthen and expand the good cooperation between Cambodia and Brazil.

Brazilian foreign minister Mauro Vieira paid a courtesy call on the premier on Wednesday (Oct. 11) at the Peace Palace.

Samdech Thipadei welcomed the official visit of the Brazilian foreign minister and praised the outcomes of past cooperation between the two countries. Samdech Thipadei hoped the good relationship between the two nations will further strengthened and expanded. Although Cambodia has a new leader, the foreign policy remains unchanged, especially in the relationship between Cambodia and Brazil.

For his part, Mauro Vieira conveyed a congratulatory letter from the Brazilian president to premier Hun Manet on his recent appointment and also expressed his intention to boost cooperation with the kingdom in various sectors such as trade, education, health, and cultural exchanges.

Taking this occasion, Mauro also welcomed the decision of the Royal Government to open the Cambodian Embassy in Brazil and informed that Brazil also plans to open its embassy in Phnom Penh in 2024, in line with the 30th anniversary of Cambodia-Brazil diplomatic relations. The Brazilian foreign minister also thanked Cambodia for supporting Brazil to become an ASEAN dialogue partner in Phnom Penh during Cambodia ASEAN Chairmanship in 2022.

In addition, both sides agreed to expand cooperation in tourism, agriculture, and people-to-people ties and discussed various issues that bring common interest.

Lastly, the Brazilian foreign minister invited Samdech Thipadei to pay a visit to Brazil at any appropriate time. In response, premier Hun Manet gladly accepted the invitation and expressed his intention to invite the Brazilian president to visit Cambodia, especially in 2024, which marks the 30th anniversary of Cambodia-Brazil diplomatic ties and the opening of the Brazilian Embassy in Cambodia.
