Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 7 – Cambodian information minister Neth Pheaktra urged social media users, especially journalists to stop posting and sharing photos of violence and murders as it negatively affects the mental and emotional well-being of the victims' family.
The information minister posted on his social media accounts on Saturday (Oct. 7).
"In recent days, there has been an increase in the posting and sharing of violent photos on Facebook, TikTok, Telegram, and other social media platforms. I would like to call on social media users to stop sharing and spreading those photos.
Those photos affect the mental and emotional well-being of the victims' families who are suffering from the loss of their family members and also affect the mental and emotional well-being of other citizens.
In addition, journalists shall respect the ethical principles set out in the Law on the Press that publication of obscene texts or pictures and graphically violent materials is prohibited in order to respect the dignity of the victim and the victim’s the family. You can share photos that do not harm the dignity and privacy of the victim, or blur the photos before posting and sharing. In this regard, it adheres to professional ethics and respects the victims."
