Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 5 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet announced the implementation of model school standards and the launching of Samdech Thipadei Model School Award to strengthen the education quality and improve students' behavior.

The premier spoke on Thursday (Oct. 5) on the occasion of the 26th National Teacher's Day, held at Institute of Technology of Cambodia.

"I would like to take this opportunity to officially launch the model school standards and Samdech Thipadei Model School Award for schools who meet the standard requirements, starting from 2023-2024 academic year," the premier underscored.

In the next two years, Samdech Thipadei also urged all relevant parties to help develop schools from kindergarten to secondary school in all forms and measures according to the five standards as follows:

1. Student outcomes. Students' learning outcomes should be an essential requirement. The priority subjects are Khmer Literature, Mathematics, and Science.

2. Teaching and learning. Develop additional curricula such as foreign language teaching, computer, and basic soft skills, organize after-school programs such as youth development programs, community and environmental volunteer programs, and strengthen students’ and education officials’ discipline, morality, virtues and behaviors.

3. The involvement of the community and parents. Encourage parents, guardians, and the community to help promote student learning, prevent school dropouts, and encourage children's enrollment.

4. School administration operations. Conduct internal inspections, technical meetings, and regular training for the management and teachers.

5. School accountability. Teachers shall adhere to professional ethics and teach at all hours in accordance to the curriculum. National and sub-national units shall monitor schools by providing support and effective training to teachers.
