Phnom Penh (FN), Oct. 3 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet stated that in recent years, the Royal Government has spent a total of USD 1.2 billion to support people affected by COVID19, inflation and economic war, and to help children and pregnant women.
The premier spoke on Tuesday (Oct. 3) during a meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Phnom Penh.
Samdech Thaipadei Hun Manet stated, "The Royal Government has always thought about its people, especially since the COVID19 outbreak until now. The implementation of cash subsidies program to support poor and vulnerable people during COVID19 since 2020, and programs for pregnant women and children under the age of two since 2019, and support programs for vulnerable households due to inflationary pressure and economic warfare since 2022. So far, at least 4.8 million people have benefited from these programs, with the government spending approximately USD 1.2 billion.”
The premier stated that the Royal Government considered to expand and continue to provide the support programs for the people, and find ways to improve their livelihoods.
In the first nine months of 2023, the Royal Government has spent nearly USD 45 million to help vulnerable people, widows and young children. The Royal Government has spent USD 17 million on School Feeding Program, which has been implemented since 2019 in 10 provinces.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that the Royal Government also aims to ensure that nine million people will be able to receive health care services, and that the government is preparing a budget of nearly USD 100 million per year.
On that occasion, premier Hun Manet added that the Royal Government has spent USD 36 million per year to provide vocational training to 1.5 million people, and the budget is increased annually. The government has also prepared USD 100 million per year to launch support programs for agricultural markets.
