Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 28 - Deputy Military Attache Col. Sergei Shumilin affirmed that there is a possibility of World War III if the Russia-Ukraine conflicts continue.
His statement was made during a press briefing of the Russian Embassy in Cambodia on Russia’s foreign policy and recent developments around Ukraine, held on Thursday (28 September 2023) at the Embassy.
Col. Sergei Shumilin said, “Yes, there is a possibility of World War III because the West does not want to stop this war. They see it as a proxy war against Russia. The West does not want negotiations, and continues sending additional military assistance to Ukraine. Such actions are very close to World War III.”
“Different types of ammunition, missiles, artillery, and recent fast jets have been delivered to Ukraine since the beginning of the special military operation. We are not sure what is going to be delivered next, probably nuclear weapons,” Col. Sergei Shumilin underlined.
He continued, “the West is ready to start WWIII and it is their responsibility. Russia is ready to negotiate with respect to our national interests.”
The United States recently announced a new military aid package for Ukraine worth up to USD 500 million. The US has also confirmed it will provide cluster munitions, a controversial move which has caused unease among some NATO allies. Ukraine has also received SCALP missiles from France - similar to the UK Storm Shadows missiles that were recently delivered.
The Washington Post also reported that the US plans to provide Ukraine with a version of the ATACMS that will be armed with cluster bomblets rather than a single warhead, citing several unnamed sources familiar with the deliberations, and that can fly up to 306km (190 miles).
