Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 25 – Korean Embassy in Cambodia hosted Korean National Day and 75th Armed Forces Day reception on Friday evening (Sep. 22) at the Raffles Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh.
The reception was attended by more than 300 participants including members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and members of the Korean community in Cambodia.
Korean Ambassador Park Jung-wook offered his congratulations on the launch of the new Government and the 7th legislature of the National Assembly of Cambodia. He expressed satisfaction at the continuing high-level interaction between the leaders of the two countries, including the recent bilateral meeting between president Yoon Suk Yeol and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on the occasion of the ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia as well as the official visit of the speaker of the Korean National Assembly to Phnom Penh in September. He commended the remarkable advances in the bilateral cooperation in the full range of the political, economic, and development fields, and also noted with appreciation the growing cooperation in the field of defense, including UN PKO Training. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Royal Government of Cambodia for the precious support for Korea’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan, the second largest city and the greatest port city of the Republic of Korea.
Minister of commerce Cham Nimul attended the Reception as a guest of honor from the Royal Government and delivered congratulatory remarks. In addition, Minister of education, youth, and sport Hang Chuon Naron, minister of industry, science, technology and innovation Hem Vanndy, minister of water resources and meteorology Thor Chetha, permanent secretary of state of defense ministry Neang Phat also attended the reception.
Following the Remarks, a video clip of Busan’s bid for the 2030 World Expo was played. Korea is now bidding to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan, the second largest city and the largest port in the country. Under the main theme of ‘Transforming Our World, Navigating Toward a Better Future,’ the 2030 World Expo aims to explore a sustainable future by addressing the common challenges facing humankind, such as climate change and pandemics. It was also emphasized that Busan is the best pick for the 2030 World Expo in terms of accessibility, infrastructure, rich cultural heritage, and extensive experience of holding large-scale international events.
The promotional booth for the 2030 World Expo in Busan was also established in the venue and was the focus of great interest amongst the guests.
