New York (FN), Sep. 23 – The secretary general of the UN Antonio Guterres praised Cambodia for its active participation in the UN mission to maintain global peace.

The secretary general of the UN paid a courtesy call on Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet on 22 September 2023 (New York time) at the United Nations headquarters, in New York, US.

In addition, the secretary general also thanked Cambodia for deploying her peacekeeping forces to undertake missions in countries in crisis.

On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei underlined that maintaining peace and stability is something that all countries need to achieve in the process of socio-economic development.

Premier Hun Manet informed the secretary general that the Royal Government of Cambodia under his leadership will continue its policy and cooperation with the UN. Cambodia continues to participate in maintaining peace under the UN mission.

Regarding peace, on behalf of the nation and the people of Cambodia, Samdech Thipadei expressed his deep gratitude to the UN for organizing the process of building peace and holding elections in Cambodia in the 1990s.

Lastly, premier Hun Manet also praised the participation and support of the UN in the process of organizing the Khmer Rouge tribunal, which allowed Cambodia to close the dark pages of history and move towards a brilliant future.
