Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 14 – Japanese ambassador to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi praised Samdech Techo Hun Sen, president of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), for organizing a stable and peaceful power transition.

The ambassador paid a courtesy call on Samdech Techo Hun Sen on 12 September 2023 at the CPP’s headquarter.

In this meeting, Samdech Techo thanked the government and the people of Japan for their significant contribution to peace building in Cambodia as well as socio-economic recovery, and this achievement has become the interests of Cambodia people and the kingdom.

Samdech Techo praised the existing friendship, especially from the period of former Japanese prime minister Takeshita Noboru to former prime minister Shinzo Abe and the current prime minister Fumio Kishida.

The ambassador conveyed a direct congratulatory message from Fumio Kishida to Samdech Techo on the achievements in cooperation and strategic partnership in all fields.

Fumio Kishida also pledged to continue to support close cooperation with Cambodian prime minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet. In the 70 years of Cambodia-Japan friendship, the two countries have benefited greatly from each other. Cambodia has been able to restore its physical infrastructure, upgrade its telecommunications system from 4G to 5G, and expand Sihanoukville seaport capacity.

The ambassador also informed about the plan to inaugurate the Toyota Assembly Plant in 2024. He also praised the important role of Samdech Techo Hun Sen in arranging for a smooth power transition and participation in regional and global peace missions.
