Kampong Speu (FN), Sep. 9 – Cambodian prime minister, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet announced to issue passport for Cambodian workers in South Korea.

The premier spoke on Saturday (Sep. 9) during a meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Kampong Speu province.

The premier underlined that regardless of which country the Cambodian people live in, the Royal Government of Cambodia has an obligation to protect and provide services to them as well as the people in the country.

Manet added that he has been aware of the challenges that Cambodian workers in South Korea are facing, such as delaying the validity of passports, which are difficult due to a number of legal requirements, as well as national security concerns and fraud. Therefore, Samdech Thipadei urged Cambodian Foreign Ministry; General Department of Identification of the Ministry of Interior; Ministry of Economy and Finance; and Ministry of Justice to facilitate the issuance of passports to Cambodian workers in South Korea.

"I have decided to allow the preparation of passports abroad, starting from South Korea," Manet said.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet also instructed Cambodian Foreign Ministry to establish a Cambodian Consulate in southern Thailand to expand the provision of services to Cambodian workers in Thailand.

Samdech Hun Manet also instructed the officials of the Cambodian Embassy, Consulate, relevant police forces to facilitate the process of issuing passports for workers in a better and faster way and avoid charging extra fees from them.
