Phnom Penh (FN), Sep. 1 – Samdech Hun Sen, president of the Supreme Privy Council of the King, expressed his sincere congratulation to former Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was pardoned by the Thai king.

Samdech tweeted on Friday (Sep. 1).

"I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to His Excellency Thaksin Shinawatra, who was pardoned by the Thai king, reducing eight-year prison sentence to just one year. I wish my brother continued good luck".

Thai king Maha Vajiralongkorn has reduced former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's eight-year prison sentence to one year, the royal gazette said on Friday.

"Thaksin accepted his crime and showed remorse," the document said, adding the former prime minister was ill.
