Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 29 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet instructed minister of Labor and Vocational Training as well as the National Minimum Wage Council to discuss minimum wage increase for workers in the textile, garment, footwear, and travel products and bags sectors.

The premier spoke during his meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Phnom Penh on Tuesday morning (Aug. 29).

Manet advised that the Ministry of Labor has the duty to facilitate the discussion based on the scientific characteristics and criteria set out in the law on minimum wage.

The premier expected the decision to be made as soon as possible, so that workers are able to bring the good news to their family when they visit hometowns during Pchum Ben holiday.

In 2023, the minimum wage for the workers is USD200 per month.
