Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 28 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet and outgoing ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Cambodia Maria Del Carmen Moreno pledged to further enhance closer Cambodia-EU cooperation, speaking during a farewell call on Monday morning (Aug. 28) at the Peace Palace.
In the meeting, Maria Del Carmen Moreno congratulated premier Hun Manet on his recent appointment as the Cambodian prime minister for the 7th legislative mandate. She also lauded Cambodia's achievements in successfully controlling the COVID19 pandemic, launching an effective social assistance program, and chairing the 2022 ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings.
She also expressed firm stance of the EU to continue to cooperate more closely with Cambodia, particularly with the new Royal Government under the wise leadership of prime minister Hun Manet.
For his part, Manet expressed his deep gratitude for the congratulations of the outgoing ambassador as well as the close cooperation between Cambodia and the European Union. He also mentioned the sustainability of the policy of the new Royal Government, which will mainly focus on human capital capacity building, health sector reform, and civil service sector reform.
Both sides pledged to further strengthen closer cooperation as well as to expand cooperation in new areas such as education and human resource development, health, and public services, which are key factors in building the efficiency and effectiveness of public services.
Manet also requested the EU continue to consider supporting and financing the "Multi-annual indicative programme 2021-2027 Phase 2" to facilitate Cambodia's trade and exports to the EU market.
Lastly, the outgoing EU ambassador informed premier Manet that she will continue her diplomatic mission in Sri Lanka and bring Cambodia's successful national reunification journey to share there.
