Phnom Penh (FN), Aug. 22 – Former Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that with his current health conditions and strength, he can run for prime minister for another mandate, but he decided to step down, so the successors can take charge of the country.

Samdech Hun Sen spoke in a press conference on Tuesday (Aug. 22) at the National Assembly.

"Everyone can witness my health conditions. Although I have become [prime minister] for a long time, I still have the ability to run for the new mandate. In some countries, the prime minister has to step down if the voter turnout is low, but unlike me, I decided to step down despite the overwhelming support," said Samdech Hun Sen.

As of 22 August 2023, Samdech has become the prime minister for 38 years, seven months, and eight days.
