Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 26 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen appealed to ministers, who will no longer serve in the new cabinet, to understand and make sacrifices for the progress of the nation.

The premier spoke in a special message on Tuesday (Jul 26).

Samdech Hun Sen stated that ministers who do not hold positions in the new Council of Ministers might become members of the National Assembly, the Senate, and some may also be appointed as advisors to the Royal Government.

"I would like to appeal to the ministers, who no longer serve in the new Council of Ministers, to understand that we have to sacrifice, and the one who made the biggest sacrifice was me. Although my son will succeed, the fact that I cannot use my power like in the past is a great sacrifice,” the premier underlined.

Samdech continued, “therefore, I appeal to the ministers, who no longer serve [in the new cabinet], to serve as members of the parliaments because we are old. Of course, some ministers can also be appointed as advisors to the Royal Government, and others can also be senators in the future," the premier underscored.

Samdech Hun Sen announced to step down from premiership and that he will become president of the Senate in the new term from 25 February 2024.
