Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 23 – Secretary general of the National Election Committee (NEC) Tep Nytha said that invalid ballots do not affect the kingdom’s election process.
Tep Nytha spoke on Sunday evening (Jul 23) in a press conference on the review of the 7th general election.
“We have not yet received the exact number of invalid ballots, but we do know the valid ballots and that is all that matters. The invalid ballots do not affect the election results,” said Nytha.
As of 6:25pm, the preliminary result of voter turnout in the 2023 Cambodia general election increased from 84.21% to 84.58%.
It should be noted that following the failure to block people from going to vote, extremist group leaders and entourages recently launched a new campaign to cast the spoiled ballot.
Article 142 (new) of law on amendment to election law, entered into force on 4 July 2023, stipulates that inciting or disturbing or blocking people not to vote or cast spoiled ballot is a violation to the laws and shall be punished with a fine between USD 1,250 to USD 5,000 excluding other criminal offenses.
