Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 21 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen received a courtesy call by speaker of Dewan Rakyat of Malaysia Tansri Dato Johari bin Abdul on Friday (Jul. 21) at the Peace Palace, Phnom Penh.
On the occasion, premier Hun Sen warmly welcomed the visit of Tansri Dato Johari bin Abdul to the kingdom to strengthen bilateral relations and witness the democratic process of the kingdom’s election.
Tansri Dato Johari bin Abdul thanked the premier for receiving him. He highly commended Cambodia's progress and prosperity. He recalled his visit to Cambodia in year 2000 when he traveled to Kampong Cham province and experienced the bumpy roads.
Tansri Dato Johari bin Abdul added that he has read many books about premier Hun Sen and his liberation journey, learning about the premier’s struggle in liberating the country from the Khmer Rouge regime and reconstructing the nation. Such efforts should be a role model for leaders of ASEAN countries.
For his part, premier Hun Sen thanked the Malaysian speaker of parliament for the positive commendation.
Samdech said he has worked hard and gone through pain to build a country from scratch, giving the golden opportunity for Cambodia to unite with the principle of non-discrimination, and full access to religion, freedom, democracy and economic development.
“Despite the ongoing economic crisis due to the COVID19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war, Cambodia can still maintain good economic growth rate,” the premier underscored.
Samdech continued that Cambodia, under the leadership of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), has maintained the harmony of all religions. For instance, Muslims have the right to freedom and even opportunities to serve in the government.
Premier Hun Sen said that Cambodia-Malaysia bilateral relations have progressed in all fields, especially trade.
“We have exchanged high level visits in the past, especially the visit of Malaysian prime minister Inwa Ibrahim to Cambodia in early 2023, which further enhanced the bilateral ties,” said the premier.
Both premier Hun Sen and speaker of Dewan Rakyat Tansri Dato Johari bin Abdul have agreed to further strengthen and expand cooperation under ASEAN framework in which we need to help each other, especially on regional peace and stability, climate change, food security, connectivity, and renewable energy.
Lastly, Tansri Dato Johari bin Abdul wished premier Hun Sen and the Cambodian People's Party success in the upcoming general election.
