Phnom Penh (FN), Jul. 17 – Convict Sam Rainsy and 16 extremist opposition group leaders were fined approximately USD 2,500 to USD 5,000 by the Provincial/Capital Election Commission (PEC) on Monday (Jul 17), with their names removed from the voters list and their rights to stand as an election candidate eliminated for 20-25 years.

The PEC on Monday (Jul 17) held a hearing on the indictment of the 17 masterminds of the extremist opposition group that led the movement to cast the spoiling of ballots as follows:

1. Sam Rainsy in Case 001 were fined approximately USD 5,000, having his name removed from the voter list and his right to stand as a candidate removed for 25 years.

2. Seng Meng Ponrong in Case 002 were fined approximately USD 2,500, having his name removed from the voter list and his right to stand as a candidate removed for 20 years.

3. Sor Chandet, Kong Saphea and Heng Danaro in Case 003 were fined approximately USD 2,500 each, having their names removed from the voter list and their rights to stand as a candidate removed for 20 years.

4. Kim Sok and Chham Chhany in Case 004 were fined approximately USD 2,500 each, having their names removed from the voter list and their rights to stand as a candidate removed for 20 years.

5. Mu Sochua, Long Ry, Ho Vann, Eng Chhai Eang, Nuth Romduol, Rin Rath, Phean Rithy, Chhey Odom Reaksmey, Neang Sokhun, and Mao Vibol in Case 005 were fined approximately USD 2,500 each, having their names removed from the voter list and their rights to stand as a candidate removed for 20 years.
