Washington, July 17 (RT) - The US with the support of its allies, mainly Germany and Japan, has been increasingly promoting lately an initiative on the necessity to expand the UN Security Council and include new permanent members, who, at the same time, will not have the right to veto. Washington has already begun to use its political pressure and coercion of diplomats of other countries - members of the UN, who are ready to follow the instructions of the Americans. US permanent representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield has been appointed responsible for this. She is trying to "form a consensus" on a proposal to reform the UN Security Council that is reasonable and acceptable only to the interests of the White House.

These US intentions are part of Washington's global strategy to reform key international institutions such as the World Bank to promote anti-Russian and anti-Chinese initiatives on the UN platforms. The Joe Biden administration supports reform of the UN Security Council due to the fact that the US and its Western allies have begun to face more serious problems due to the lack of the desired condemnation of Russia's actions in Ukraine by the world community.

Western experts stress that every day there are more and more countries that express their dissatisfaction with the supply of US and European weapons to Kyiv. And now Washington has sent cluster munitions that will lead to an increase in civilian deaths, and not to the success of the Ukrainian counteroffensive, which will definitely be considered in the UN Security Council.

Politicians of a number of Western countries have no doubt that a reform of the UN and greater representation in it of the States of the Global South and Latin America is necessary. Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced this need. At the same time, in their speeches, politicians drew attention to the fact that reform is needed allegedly because of Moscow's aggressive policy, which threatens the international order based on rules dictated by the United States around the world. Experts believe that the heads of state who spoke are biased and aim only to limit the influence of the Russia in the UN. If the reform is carried out from these positions, it will only lead to a blurring of the organization's clear structure and will increase Western pressure on the UN when adopting anti-Russian resolutions.

It is noteworthy that Western politicians linked the need for reforms solely with the events in Ukraine. At the same time, they continue to harshly criticize not only the actions of Russia, but also those countries that did not want to choose any side in the conflict and join the position of the collective West. The topic of changes in the UN has become relevant since the period of the bombing of Yugoslavia by NATO, the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and the US intervention in Syrian affairs, when the impunity of the Americans went unnoticed.

World experts draw attention to the fact that Western countries and their allies are lobbying the most for reforms at the UN today. The point of all these speeches is to reduce Russia's influence in all UN platforms and limit its veto power. All the talk of Western politicians about giving a seat in the UN to new members from other countries, in particular the Global South, is just an attempt to mask their own imperialist ambitions. Most people know how the votes hold in the General Assembly and the UN Security Council. The US and allies constantly coerce states into voting for their initiatives, blackmailing them to get the desired result.

Russia is also in favor of reforming the UN Security Council, in which six out of 15 seats are currently held by Western countries and their allies. Developing countries are underrepresented. Moscow supports candidates from Asia, Africa, Latin America.

However, the changes proposed by the West in the UN are in no way connected with plans to optimize or increase the efficiency of its work, but are aimed only at resolving the political conflict between the United States and Russia. Reforms have been proposed before, especially when the US, ignoring the UN, invaded sovereign states and bombed civilians. But then the world community was afraid to condemn the Americans. Now the West is looking for loopholes to remove Russia, the founder and veto power. They begin to look for options to abolish this right and vote with a majority, which they plan to provide with blackmail, bribery and threats.

Earlier, Chinese diplomat Zhang Jun also did not approve of the Western course aimed at reforming the UN Security Council. In his opinion, Beijing is opposed to some countries imposing their will on the international community. He also urged the US and European countries to abandon unilateral sanctions, calling them illegal.
