Kandal (FN), Jun. 29 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen announced to provide social benefits, which aim to support pregnant women and their children under the age of two, for pregnant civil servants, interns, and contract officials.
The premier spoke on Thursday morning (Jun 29) during his meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Ang Snuol district, Kandal province.
"I would like to take this opportunity to announce to all female civil servants, interns, and contract officials that when they are pregnant, they will be able to receive the same social benefits as pregnant workers [...] Social protection policies have been set out in response to people's welfare issues," the premier underscored.
Samdech urged the minister of economy and finance Aun Pornmoniroth to prepare a separate sub-decree to implement social benefits for female civil servants, interns, and contract officials in the near future.
In addition, for female polices and soldiers, Samdech advised the minister of economy and finance to discuss with the minister of interior and minister of national defense to review and launch this social benefits program.
According to the premier, the program is estimated to cost the government approximately USD 3 million annually.
