Kandal (FN), Jun. 29 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen warned that Cambodia will file a complaint to the United Nations (UN) if unidentified drones continue to fly into Cambodian territory. He also called on ASEAN countries to jointly take actions against the violation of sovereignty.
The premier spoke on Thursday (Jun 29) during his meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Ang Snuol district, Kandal province.
"We have the means to destroy drones. We do not allow any invasion in our territory. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also issued a press statement, and I discussed with foreign minister Prak Sokhonn that if such violation continues, we will submit formal complaint to the UN to determine whether it is an act of terror on our territory. We will also write to the ASEAN chair that our country is plagued by unidentified drones,” the premier underscored.
The incursions of drones into Cambodian airspace constitute a blatant and intolerable violation of Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, according to the Foreign Ministry’s press statement dated 28 June 2023.
Once the origin of these drones is determined, the Royal Government of Cambodia will undertake legal and diplomatic actions to register its strong protest against such encroachments on Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, the statement added.
