Kampong Speu (FN), Jun. 27 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen underlined that in 2022, there were 1,400 new cases of HIV infection in Cambodia, up 300 cases compared to 2021. Therefore, he called on the people, relevant authorities, and health workers nationwide to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
The premier spoke on Tuesday morning (Jun 27) during his meeting with nearly 20,000 workers in Kampong Speu.
According to the report, most of the reported cases occur among gay men.
Samdech continued, HIV/AIDS has increased lately, which requires everyone to strictly adhere to preventive measures.
In Cambodia, there is no discrimination against LGBT people, and the law in Cambodia does not prohibit homosexuality. However, law does not allow people of the same sex to marry, the premier added.
On that occasion, Samdech also called on non-discrimination against LGBT people and urged to provide employment opportunities for them.
