Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 20 – Cambodian prime minister Hun said that he began to suspect the activities of the Khmer Rouge’s scheme since September 1974, speaking during a celebration of the 46th anniversary of Marching Toward National Salvation, held on Tuesday (June 20) at the Ministry of National Defense.
The premier added that he heard a commander addressing the equality of the people.
Premier Hun Sen stated, "while looking at the past, today is the toughest day for me 46 years ago. We did not decide and take action immediately. I started to have doubts about the Khmer Rouge in September 1974. The suspicion began when they sent my forces to protect Koh Samrong."
June 20 is marked as a reminder of the role of premier Hun Sen and his four closest allies in requesting assistance from the Vietnamese government in 1977 to help oust Pol Pot’s regime.
