Kampong Speu (FN), Jun. 17 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen advised Ministry of Social Affairs to implement social benefits for pregnant workers based on the number of children, meaning that from pregnancy to childbirth, the same amount of cash support is provided. However, the postpartum fund for parents and children under the age of two will provide based on the actual number of children.

The premier spoke on Saturday morning (Jun 17) during his meeting with more than 18,000 workers in Kampong Speu province.

Samdech affirmed that from August 2023 onwards, the increased social protection stipends for pregnant women and their children until the age of two will be effective, and each person will receive about USD 380. According to this policy, pregnant women shall go for four prenatal check-ups and each time receive USD 80 and for another USD 100 on the baby’s delivery day; and ten postpartum visits with both mother and child each time receive USD 20. Therefore, the cash support program for pregnant workers and children under two will receive a total subsidy of about USD 380.

Samdech also reminded factory owners to allow pregnant workers and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) workers to leave at least 15 minutes early, while some factories allow pregnant workers to leave one hour early.
