Phnom Penh (FN), Jun. 9 – On 8 June 2023, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Cambodia held the State Reception in Sofitel Hotel (Phnom Penh) on the occasion of the upcoming Russia Day (12 June).
Senior minister Ly Thuch, first vice-president of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, took part in the event as the main guest.
The reception was attended by esteemed representatives of the Royal House, Senate and National Assembly, Royal Government, central ministries and institutions, Royal Cambodian Armed Forces command, as well as foreign diplomatic missions, business structures, members of the Association of Former Cambodian Students from Soviet Union and Russia, local media. Representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church and compatriots living in Phnom Penh were among the guests.
In his welcoming address, Russian ambassador to Cambodia Anatoly Borovik noted the importance of this national holiday, symbolizing the Russian people’s unity around the enduring values of justice, its connection with the start of vital democratic and economic reforms on the historical path of our country, its significant contribution to the development of global civilization. The head of the Russian diplomatic mission emphasized our country's long-standing relations the Kingdom, assistance to the reconstruction of Cambodia after the overthrow of the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime, and the current development of bilateral engagement in various fields. He expressed confidence in the further building up of practical cooperation and mutually beneficial relations in the interest of the people of our two states.
The guests enjoyed a virtual photo exhibition demonstrating Russia’s natural beauty, as well as a short music performance.
