Kampong Speu (FN), Jun. 4 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the partial removal of 20 percent of the EU's Everything But Arms (EBA) from Cambodia would not affect the kingdom's production chain and the EBA will be completely withdrawn once Cambodia elevates itself to become a high-income country.
The premier spoke on Sunday morning (June 4) during a meeting with more than 16,000 workers in Kampong Speu province.
"As predicted, the EBA will be 100 percent withdrawn either in 2026 or 2027. By then, our country is no longer under the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) status. Thus, we have to pay taxes. The partial removal of 20 percent of EBA does not matter,” the premier underlined.
“We still can export rice, but this time we have to pay taxes, so we gain less profit. Therefore, we have to strengthen our resilience from now on," the premier added.
On that occasion, Samdech reiterated that Cambodia does not trade national sovereignty for aid or a Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).
