Kandal (FN), Jun. 3 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that his painful experience of losing a child taught him to highly support and protect pregnant workers.

The premier spoke on Saturday morning during his meeting with more than 17,000 workers in Kandal province.

“How much sadness and pain does a woman have to suffer when she has a miscarriage? How about her husband, who is the father of the lost child? I know how painful it is,” the premier underlined.

During the liberation of the Khmer Rouge regime, Samdech had to leave his first lady despite being five-month pregnant with the second child while the first child had been lost.

Samdech continued, he valued the interest and the lives of people and that he thanked all the factories that have allowed pregnant workers to leave 15 minutes early. He also reiterated that he considered a pregnant woman the lives of two people.

"All matters related to the interests of the people should not be considered as trivial. They must be solved and I am proud of what we have resolved before and after the meeting with workers,” the premier added.

At the same time, Samdech also instructed the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training to work with factory owners to help cover the protection policy for pregnant workers.
