Phnom Penh (FN), May 26 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the loss of original registration document of the Candlelight Party is the pretext that allows foreigners to put pressure on the Royal Government of Cambodia.
The premier spoke on Friday morning (May 26) during his meeting with approximately 20,000 workers in the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone.
"I do not believe that the original registration document of the Candlelight Party is missing. The original document must be with someone who does not want the Candlelight Party to compete in the general election 2023, for they know for sure that they will lose the election. Creating a scenario that the original document is missing is a pretext that allows foreigners to put pressure on Cambodia," the premier underscored.
The premier pointed out that the Candlelight Party could register to compete in communal election in 2022 because the NEC accepted the copy-version of the registration document since Cambodia has over 1,000 communes/sangkats and that no parties can have over 1,000 original documents.
