Phnom Penh (FN), May 8 - Former president and prime minister of East Timor Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao praised Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen’s leadership in last year’s ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings, speaking at a press conference during his visit to Cambodia on 4-6 May 2023.
Xanana Gusmao also highly commended Cambodia’s preparations and hospitality during the opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games, which took place on 5 May 2023 at Moradok Techo National Stadium, Phnom Penh.
“It was the first time and it was amazing and fantastic. I am very impressed with the way Cambodian people prepared themselves to show to ASEAN and to the world that they are ready,” Gusmao underlined.
Gusmao continued, “regarding the games, for this occasion, it aims to further strengthen the relationship between Cambodia and Timor-Leste. Sports live in peace and sports means more than martial arts.”
On the occasion, former president Gusmao also pledged to further enhance the existing cooperation in Cambodia in various sectors, in particular education and agriculture, and that Timor-Leste opens the door for effective cooperation with Cambodia.
Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão led the delegation to visit Cambodia from 4 to 7 May 2023 to attend the opening of the 32nd SEA Games. On 6 May, Xanana Gusmão paid a courtesy call on premier Hun Sen at the Peace Palace to discuss effective ways to enhance bilateral relationship and cooperation between the two countries.
