Phnom Penh (FN), May 2 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen appreciated the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) for its outstanding achievements and great efforts in promoting the Buddha's doctrines, the values of Buddhism and the connection of Buddhists around the globe for the noble cause of peace for all mankind.

The premier spoke at the conferment ceremony of the Honorary Title “Patron” of The World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) and “Honorary Doctorate in Humanities” from the Universitas Negeri Padang of Indonesia, held on Tuesday (May 2) at Wat Phnom Cultural and Historical Site in Phnom Penh.

"I would like to express my appreciation for the outstanding achievements and great efforts of the World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) in promoting the Buddha's doctrines, the values of Buddhism, and the connection of Buddhists around the globe for the noble cause of peace for all mankind," the premier underscored.

The premier pointed out that Cambodia has adopted Buddhism as the official religion in the 1993 Constitution, which represents the unique spirit and philosophy of Cambodia.

Buddhism is the foundation for peace building, national unity, post-conflict reconstruction, as well as our constructive participation in humanitarian efforts and regional and global peacebuilding, the premier added.

Taking this occasion, Samdech also praised Islam and other religions that have contributed to peace building, peacekeeping, and development of Cambodia in the past and present.
