Phnom Penh (FN), May 1 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen considered the SEA Games torch relay as the national festival, as Cambodia waited 64 years to host the SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games.
The premier spoke during the meeting with Cambodian athletes ahead of the 32nd SEA Games’ Opening Ceremony, held on Monday afternoon (May 1) at the Peace Palace.
"Currently, the SEA Games torch relay has returned to our country. It passed through several provinces and it seems like a national festival of those provinces. Even though it rained in Pursat province yesterday, people warmly welcomed the arrival of the torch. While in Phnom Penh, we celebrated at the Win-win Monument along with performances,” the premier underscored.
On that occasion, Samdech also expressed his deepest gratitude to Cambodian king Norodom Sihamoni for lighting the torch.
