Sihanoukville (FN), May 1 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that Cambodia was among the first countries to support Japan's Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) initiative, which was consistent with Cambodia’s three principles.

The premier spoke at a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Sihanoukville container terminal, held on Monday (May 1) in Sihanoukville province.

"Some Japanese initiatives have been supported by Cambodia, such as the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). Cambodia was the first country to support this Japan's initiative, based on three principles. Cambodia supports all countries, not only Japan," the premier underscored.

Samdech continued, the three principles include (1) any initiative shall serve peace and development; (2) the initiative shall not be against any country or group; and (3) the initiative shall adhere to ASEAN Centrality and ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.

On that occasion, premier Hun Sen also announced that he does not support any initiative that could cause war or oppose third country as Cambodia's foreign policy is an independent rule-based policy.
