Phnom Penh (FN), Apr. 26 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen asked the Japan-Cambodia Association (JCA) to assist in human resources training and promote Cambodia's export to Japan.
The premier spoke in a courtesy call by the president of the Japan-Cambodia Association (JCA) Takahashi Fumiaki, held on Wednesday afternoon (Apr 26) at the Peace Palace.
According to the premier’s personal assistant Eang Sophalleth, Takahashi briefed the premier the JCA's working activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Japan as follow:
1. Organize an information-sharing forum on investment potential in Cambodia for Japanese businessmen, in particular Japanese Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), who seek investment in foreign countries.
2. Promote human resources development in a cosmetic beauty, an automotive repair and hospitality sectors.
3. To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Japan, which will also feature Japanese fireworks in Phnom Penh on 19 September 2023.
4. Promote Cambodia's export to Japan and process Cambodia's products for market sale.
On the occasion, Takahashi congratulated premier Hun Sen for a successful ASEAN chairmanship and organization of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and Related Summits.
For his part, the premier thanked Takahashi for his briefing. He encouraged the JCA to continue its efforts to bring Japanese investors to Cambodia. Promoting foreign investors, particularly Japanese, is one of Cambodia's priorities. In addition, Cambodia also has new investment law, which offers more favorable conditions.
Samdech also asked Takahashi to further assist with the kingdom's human resources development training. He also informed Takahashi about the vocational and technical training project for about 1.5 million Cambodian young people from poor and vulnerable households. In addition, Samdech asked Takahashi to promote Cambodia's export to Japan as the kingdom's commodities have an excellent quality with less chemicals being utilized.
Lastly, Samdech also thanked Takahashi for his congratulation on the success of the 2022 ASEAN Chairmanship. Samdech recalled the challenges of Cambodia as the rotating chair of ASEAN in addressing regional and international issues such as the Myanmar crisis, the South China Sea disputes, the Taiwan Strait issue, the Russia-Ukraine war, and geopolitical confrontation. However, Cambodia successfully chaired the summits by maintaining the ASEAN Centrality, ASEAN Solidarity, and ASEAN influence, as well as adopting all statements and documents without confrontation.
