Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 27 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen stated that Cambodia, formerly known as a killing field, an unsafe area and a minefield, has now become an island of peace and a popular tourist destination.
The premier spoke during Iftar dinner with Malaysian prime minister Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim on Monday evening at OCIC, Phnom Penh.
"Cambodia, formerly known as the Killing Fields, is an insecure area, a minefield that everyone fears, has now become an island of peace and a popular tourist destination,” the premier underlined.
Samdech continued, Cambodia, formerly a country facing poverty and food insecurity, has now become a food exporter and achieved high economic growth.
Cambodia, formerly a country under siege and political and economic isolation, has now become a country that is actively integrating itself in the global structure and is playing an active role with equal rights and equality in all regional affairs and on the international stage, the premier added.
Meanwhile, rights and dignity of the Cambodian people are guaranteed and religious freedom is completely restored, said premier Hun Sen.
On that occasion, the premier also underscored that the Royal Government always promotes freedom of religion and promotes religious harmony in Cambodia by facilitating all religion practices and resolutely opposing racism.
Samdech continued, there has never been religious conflicts or wars in the modern history of Cambodia, and Cambodia has been recognized and appreciated by the national and international community for the religious harmony that the kingdom has achieved with and maintaining the sustainability of this wonderful harmony.
