Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 16 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen expressed his regret over the fire at the Royal Palace in Siem Reap and encouraged proper renovations, speaking at the graduation of Build Bright University students, held on Thursday (Mar. 16) at Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Center.
The premier added that he will continue to follow up with the governor of Siem Reap.
The premier also prayed for powerful spirits (boramey) to punish those who distorted the information and accused the Royal Government and the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) of setting fire to the Royal Palace in Siem Reap province.
“I pray Preah Ang Chek, Preah Ang Chorm (a famous shrine in Siem Reap province) to punish those who have accused the CPP of setting fire to the Siem Reap’s Royal Residence,” he said.
On 13 March 2023, Ministry of the Royal Palace issued a statement confirming that the fire broke out in a small building of the Royal Palace of Siem Reap was caused by electric shock.
