Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 7 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen shared six recommendations to contribute to the improvement of the health sector and the quality of health services in Cambodia.
The premier spoke at a closing annual meeting of Ministry of Health on Tuesday (Mar 7) at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
The six points are as follows:
1. Ministry of Health and relevant authorities must continue to strengthen the health security system to have sufficient capacity at both the national and sub-national levels to respond in a timely and effective manner to epidemics or public health emergencies.
2. The improvement of the quality of health services must be done regularly to improve the quality of health care services and other related services and to increase people's trust in the public health system. It is necessary to strengthen the effectiveness of the mechanism to monitor and evaluate the quality of services that are currently being implemented. At the same time, the Ministry of Health must review and develop the appropriate development and implementation of clinical governance mechanisms at both public and private health facilities to ensure that the health care services provided are in compliance with established standards.
3. The Ministry of Health must maximize the health service delivery mechanism as well as strengthen the training on health in both hard and soft skills by regularly updating the curriculum to improve professional ethics in key areas. The Ministry of Health shall recruit Cambodian intellectuals with higher degrees and practical experience in the field of health to teach in higher education and training institutions. The Ministry of Health must establish a mechanism to encourage professors in the field of health to conduct regular research to sharpen both theoretical and practical knowledge to improve the efficiency of health services.
4. The Ministry of Health and the capital-provincial administrations must continue to enhance cooperation with relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of the Health Equity Fund Program for Poor Families and the National Social Security Fund. No citizen is denied access to health care due to inability to afford the services.
5. All health officials, doctors and medical staff are encouraged to pay more attention, especially to prioritize life-saving above all else, by adhering to professional ethics.
6. In collaboration with relevant ministries and institutions, the Ministry of Health must raise awareness and promote education of food and beverages in order to avoid the impact of those foods on people's health, as well as government's spending on health care.
