Phnom Penh (FN), Mar. 7 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen urged philanthropists to help build dormitories for high school female students in Phnom Penh and other provinces to boost education opportunities and reduce education inequality between females in rural and urban.
The premier spoke when he presided over the celebration of the 112th Anniversary of International Women's Day on Tuesday (Mar 7) at the Peace Palace.
"I should clarify this point for our benefit to become a national movement. In the past, I held a meeting with the Cambodian National Council for Women (CNCW). The outcome is to focus on building dormitories for female students, which are not only in Phnom Penh but also in the provinces. Thus, I would like to take this opportunity to call on philanthropists to donate to the construction of dormitories for female students in high schools nationwide," the premier underscored.
"Importantly, I want to reduce the education inequality between females in urban and rural areas. In this regard, we must ensure female students in rural areas have education opportunities and proper accommodation. Normally, parents are always worried about their daughters, so we have to do this," the premier added.
