Phnom Penh (FN), Mar 6 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that the global economic situation is unhealthy. Although the economies of the US and EU have not deteriorated significantly, it has caused global inflation issue, which led to loss of revenues and reduced purchases from Cambodia's garment industries.
The premier spoke at a graduation of nearly 2,000 students of Institute of New Khmer, held on Monday (Mar 6) at the OCIC, Phnom Penh.
Premier Hun Sen recalled that global economic crisis in 2008 had severely affected productions in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Viet Nam, and other countries as some major companies in the US and EU experienced income loss. As a result, many factories suspended operations in 2008 and 2009.
Samdech recalled that the launching of "Samdech Techo Fund for Vocational Training" that provides free trainings to factory workers had helped them find new ways of living.
