Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 28 - Singaporean director of Security and Intelligence Division (SID) Lau Peet Meng said Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen is a leader who has contributed to peace in the region and the world.
Lau Peet Meng paid a courtesy call on the premier on Tuesday morning (Feb. 28) at the Peace Palace.
According to the premier’s personal secretary Eang Sophalleth, in this meeting, Lau Peet Meng expressed his respect for the premier’s leadership, including on national development and Cambodia's roles on international stage like chairing ASEAN Summit and related summits.
Meng recalled that he visited Cambodia in 2020 and today, Cambodia has improved substantially with peace and stability.
On that occasion, Lau Peet Meng congratulated Samdech on the successful ASEAN chairmanship amidst global pandemic, and Cambodia's contributions to resolving issues in Myanmar, wars in Ukraine and the crisis in South China Sea.
During the meeting, Meng also asked for premier Hun Sen’s recommendation on cooperation between Cambodia and Singapore.
In response, the premier thanked Lau Peet Meng for his commendation on Cambodia's progress and contributions.
Samdech said that the success of ASEAN in 2022 was due to the participation of all stakeholders. He also thanked Singapore for participating in such important meeting.
For bilateral cooperation, Samdech advised to promote the connection between Cambodia and Singapore, especially by air. He also wants to see cooperation in tourism, education and health.
