Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 23 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen instructed the ministries and leaders of institutions at both the national and sub-national levels to increase the number of female candidates in their appointments.
The premier spoke at the annual meeting of the Ministry of Interior on Thursday afternoon (Feb. 23) at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel.
The premier’s instructions came after Samdech observed during a meeting of the National Council for Women that the number of women at the national, provincial and district levels was too low, even for the newly appointed deputy governors.
Premier Hun Sen said, "there are few women to apply for new positions at the national, provincial, and district levels, and this is an issue that I would like to remind [...] I would like to remind you that it is not too late.”
