Phnom Penh (FN), Feb 20 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen reaffirmed that VOD could not be reinstated and the outsiders shall not involve in this case, speaking at the graduation ceremony of nearly 2,000 students of Human Resource University, held on Monday morning (Feb 20) at OCIC, Phnom Penh.
"The shutdown of VOD does not kill press freedom in Cambodia. On the contrary, it strengthens the journalism profession and press codes of ethics. It should come to an end, your target was to attack me and my son [Hun Manet], yet you also attacked the Royal Government," the premier underscored.
"I would like to remind outsiders not to get involved [with VOD]. This is Cambodian internal affairs and Cambodia is not your country," the premier continued.
In order to protect the honor and dignity of the kingdom, on 12 February 2023, the Ministry of Information revoked the VOD license.
On 14 February 2023, Samdech announced to welcome former employees of VOD media to serve in the government to support their livelihoods.
