Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 8 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen, through the new ambassador of Japan to Cambodia Ueno Atsushi, requested the government of Japan to encourage Japanese citizens to visit the SEA Games in Cambodia, which will begin in May.

Ambassador Ueno Atsushi paid a courtesy call on the premier on Wednesday morning at the Peace Palace.

According to the premier’s personal secretary Eang Sophalleth, during the meeting, the Japanese ambassador pledged to promote Cambodian-Japan relationship, noting that it was very good at the moment and he was honored to posted as the Japanese ambassador to Cambodia.

The ambassador pledged to do his utmost to further strengthen the Cambodian-Japanese bilateral relation by encouraging investors and tourists to Cambodia.

Atsushi added, the Japanese government will also assist Cambodia in organizing the SEA Games, the election process, demining and economic cooperation and other issues.

On that occasion, premier Hun Sen welcomed all the agendas of the ambassador.

Regarding SEA Games, Samdech underlined that Japan can assist the SEA Games in Cambodia by encouraging Japanese people to physically enjoy SEA Games or arranging special direct flights during the games.

In addition, the premier asked the Japanese ambassador to boost trade and encourage more Japanese investors to come to Cambodia.

During the meeting, ambassador Atsushi also recalled his visit to Cambodia in 1992. Today, he is amazed with the kingdom’s robust growth along with peace and stability. The ambassador highly appreciated the premier’s leadership and congratulated Samdech for successfully chairing the ASEAN Summit and related summits.

Ambassador also conveyed condolences for the loss of premier Hun Sen’s sister in law.

In response, Samdech thanked for the ambassador's kind words and welcomed and congratulated the ambassador on his appointment as Japanese ambassador to Cambodia.
