Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 2 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen stated that the flames of war had deprived the youth of practical learning opportunities, speaking in the meeting with Grade A high school students on Thursday morning (Feb 2) in Phnom Penh.

The situation of the kingdom from 1975 to 1979 completely destroyed the rights and freedoms of the people, especially the youth and children, not to mention the rights to education, the premier added.

“Peace shall not be overlooked. No success can be achieved without peace. Both education and the arts can only survive in peace,” the premier underlined.

Samdech continued, "during the war, schools were closed and young people and children lost the opportunity to study, even in urban areas, young people were forced to join the army.”

At the same time, premier Hun Sen also highlighted painful history of Cambodia under the leadership of the Pol Pot regime.

Premier Hun Sen added that after 1979, the Cambodian government made great efforts to restore the education sector, and after Cambodia completely ended the 1998 civil war through win-win policy, the kingdom completely dissolved the Khmer Rouge organization. The former battle fields have been transformed to schools for students to learn, the premier underlined. .
