Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 23 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen said that investment from private sector in Cambodia's education will significantly contribute to building more human resources through education and training.

The premier spoke at a graduation ceremony for nearly 7,000 students on Monday (Jan 23) at OCIC, Phnom Penh.

On that occasion, premier Hun Sen underlined that Cambodia has never given up on the development of education and training. The Royal Government has done a lot of work to provide education and training to the people, strengthening the education sector from primary to higher education. In addition, the Royal Government also provides opportunities for the private sector to invest in education, technical and vocational training to contribute to building more human resources in the country, which is the main priority in the development of the country.

"I am still proud of the right decision to allow the private sector to invest in education,” said the premier. “Since 1989, we have opened up opportunities for the private sector to invest in education.”

Samdech continued, if the private sector is not allowed to invest in education, Cambodia will fail to fully provide education to students. The public university alone only accepts approximately 10,000 applicants per year.

Currently, the Royal Government also allows students who do not pass the exam to study for an associate's degree before proceeding to a bachelor's degree at the university, the premier added. In addition, students who fail the exam can also attend technical and vocational training schools, which was operated under the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training.

On that occasion, Samdech reacted to a number of unscrupulous groups who were initially educated under the roof of Cambodian schools and by Cambodian teachers, but they criticized the quality of Cambodia's education.
