Phnom Penh (FN), Jan. 13 — The draft law on "clean water management" has been approved by the Council of Ministers.

The approval was made at a cabinet meeting chaired by Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen on Friday morning (Jan 13).

The management and development of the water sector is an important basis that can sustain and respond to the momentum of socio-economic development of Cambodia, which has been growing steadily year-on-year.

Water supply is one of the four priority areas in the government’s Rectangular Strategy Phase IV. The development and management of water supply services also build trust and attracts both domestic and international investments.

According to the government’s spokesperson Phay Siphan, the draft law was initiated by former Ministry of Industry and Handicrafts since 2016 and was discussed and revised in the mandate of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, with initial support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
