Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 10 – Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen shared eight recommendations to contribute to the discussion in the 16th World Congress of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club, held on Saturday (Dec 10) at Sokha Beach Resort, Preah Sihanouk Province.

“To contribute to the discussion in this 16th World Congress, as well as to the sustainable, effective and responsible management and development of Cambodia Bay, may I share some key recommendations as follows:

First. We must maintain the presence of permanent peace, as the most significant element for the development of all nations in the world. No tourist risks traveling to a country at war.

Second. Cambodia is committed to maintaining her membership in the Club, and all four of Cambodia’s coastal provinces must maintain their belt and reputation as a club member of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World. We are committed to making our coastal cities sustainable, as set out in the strategy to develop the tourism sector in coastal provinces, namely: Preah Sihanouk Province: as “Recreational Tourist Destination and a Multi-Purpose Economic Zone”, Kep Province: as “High-end and Luxurious Urban Tourist Destination”, Kampot Province: as “Cultural Heritage Urban Tourist Destination and Coastal Agro-Tourism”, and Koh Kong Province: as “World Class Eco-Tourism Destination”.

Third. I propose an annual National Coastal Forum to be organized, on a rotating basis among the four coastal provinces, in order to meet, discuss and exchange ideas on the development of Cambodia’s coastal areas on 26 May of each year, the same day Cambodia became a club member.

Fourth. I propose that Ministry of Tourism and Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration study the possibility of establishing Maison de la Baie. In this sense, I would like to ask Excellency President and all club members to share experiences and processes of establishing your respective Maison de la Baie.

Fifth. I propose that Ministry of Tourism cooperates with the World-Bays Club to study and establish the Coastal Tourism Observatory as an additional institutional mechanism to promote the development of the tourism sector in the coastal areas as done by other club members.

Sixth. To reaffirm our commitment to coastal development, Cambodia is ready to serve as a Secretariat to operate the Club’s administration and general affairs. Ministry of Tourism and Preah Sihanouk Provincial Administration must set up permanent offices at the Ministry and in Preah Sihanouk Province for the operation of this Secretariat. Meanwhile, I also welcome the Club Board meeting to be held in 2023 or later, along with other events of the Club on Cambodia Bay.

Seventh. With the election of the Executive Committee for the next term at the closing of the World Congress, Cambodia would like to show our support to the candidacy of His Excellency Bruno Bodard as the next President of the Club. We would also like to ask the Executive Committee and all club members to support Cambodia as a Board member of the Club for the term 2023-2025 under the leadership of His Excellency Louis Thébault, who will take office in the next term.

Eighth. With the expectation that the World Congress will adopt the Charter of Bay, may I request that the World Congress, as well as Cambodia, use this document as an additional compass to guide coastal development in our respective countries.”
