Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 8 – Outgoing Japanese ambassador to Cambodia Mikami Masahiro highly appreciated the leadership of Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen in nation building and foreign policies.
The ambassador spoke during his farewell call on premier Hun Sen on Thursday evening (Dec 8) at the Peace Palace.
According to the premier’s personal secretary Eang Sophalleth, the outgoing ambassador congratulated Samdech and the Royal Government for successfully hosting the ASEAN Summit as well as the related summits. He also congratulated the kingdom on COVID19 effective control.
Sophalleth added, the ambassador also highly evaluated and appreciated the leadership of premier Hun Sen in leading and restoring Cambodia from a war-torn society over the past 30 years.
The ambassador praised Samdech’s foreign policy on the decisions related to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, the efforts to resolve the Myanmar’s crisis and particular, strengthening and promoting the relations between Cambodia and Japan to become a comprehensive strategic partner in 2023.
In this meeting, the ambassador also informed Samdech that his mission in Cambodia achieved good results with the full support of Cambodia's public and private institutions. He added that Japan continues to support Cambodia in her development path and that Japan is currently helping to train Cambodian athletes for next year's SEA Games.
For his part, premier Hun Sen thanked the ambassador for his mission to promote relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Japan.
Premier Hun Sen also highlighted the ambassador's mission, including promoting the relationship between the two countries to become a comprehensive strategic partnership, organizing the docking of two Japanese Self-Defense Forces and meetings between Samdech and the Japanese prime minister four times a year, arranging exchange visits between leaders and officials of the two countries, including the visit of Dr. Hun Manet, promoting Japanese investment in Cambodia, organizing 11th anniversary of Minebea establishment in the kingdom as well as promoting all Japanese projects in Cambodia to run smoothly despite COVID19.
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine issue, Samdech told the ambassador that the decision was in line with international laws. For Myanmar issue, Samdech emphasized that Cambodia has made great efforts to normalize the situation, but now it is time for Indonesia to help resolve on behalf of chair of ASEAN.
