Phnom Penh (FN), Dec. 8 – Two groups of Cambodian peacekeepers, including the Airport Engineering Force and the 9th Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Force, returned home after completing UN peacekeeping mission in Mali.
The reception ceremony was held on Thursday morning (Dec 8) under the chairmanship of Cambodian vice chairman of the National Committee and director general of the National Peacekeeping Center Sem Sovanny at Phnom Penh International Airport.
Immediately after their arrivals, all forces took rapid tests for COVID19 and malaria before reuniting with their families.
Cambodia, since 2006, has sent over 8,475 peacekeepers to carry out UN peacekeeping missions in nine countries, including Sudan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Cyprus, Syria, Chad, Mali, and the Central African Republic, where 118 out of 801 current troops are women. Cambodia is ranked 2nd in ASEAN and 12th among all contributing countries.
