Bangkok (FN), Nov. 18 – Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese expressed his gratitude to Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen and ASEAN for their efforts to release Australian professor Sean Turnell.

Australian premier spoke at the press conference, held on 17 November 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand.

“I do want to thank… our ASEAN friends, in particular, PM Hun Sen of Cambodia who has chaired ASEAN and has kept the pressure on… But other friends in ASEAN, who’ve been so consistent about the need to release professor Turnell,” Anthony underscored.

Australian foreign minister Penny Wong on Friday (Nov 18) confirmed that professor Turnell has arrived safely home to Australia, and has been reunited with his wife and family, after more than 21 months of unjust detention in Myanmar.
